2007 Annual Conference

The Oklahoma Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators held their 2006 Annual Conference in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma October 25, 26, and 27, 2006. The Conference provided training on investigation skills related to “GONE WITHOUT A TRACE”.

The “BREATH OF FRESH AIR” conference included 16 Hours of CLEET Continuing Education Credits for Certified Oklahoma Peace Officers and Licensed Private Investigators. The conference also provided 16 Hours Continuing Education Credits for Oklahoma Insurance Adjusters and for Oklahoma Bar Association Members.

Bill Cathcart, Senior Partner of Cathcart & Dooley, Oklahoma City, OK presented "The Scientific Method is Necessary" providing guidance on lega challenges a fire investigator will face in giving expert testimony.

ATF Agent Mike Marquardt presented, "NFPA 921 Guides the Systematic Approach" covering portions of NFPA 921 that reflect guidance on how to investigate a fire scene. He also presented, "Fire Dynamics & Analyzing Post Flashover Scenes ". The class presented an understanding of fire dynamics and how those dynamics affect fire patterns and damage, especially in the post-flashover fire scenes. It used Fire Modeling Computer Program as a tool to analyze and understand what is happens in a post-flashover compartment fire

The Moore Fire Department worked with the OKIAAI Executive Board to build 3 Live Fire Scenes that were used for the origin and cause field exercise on the 2nd day of the conference.

Richard Stizman, Cleveland County Assistant District Attorney, was recognized as the Oklahoma Chapter IAAI Investigator of the Year.

Photography Awards were presented to the top photos in Arson and Accidental categories.

The Conference closed with the Oklahoma Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators Annual Meeting.
